Meet the team.

Pete Yellico joins Beaverton Sports Club as Director of Tennis, leading the club's Tier 1 tennis program.

He comes to Beaverton from the University of Oregon, where he spent three seasons as assistant coach with the women's tennis program. Before Oregon, he was head men's and women's coach at the University of Redlands, where his women's team reached the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 and a No. 15 national ranking, and he signed top-15 recruiting classes on both sides in a single year.

His record was built at Pacific University. Five years as an assistant, then five as head men's coach: 95–41 overall, 63–12 in the Northwest Conference, a No. 17 national ranking, 14 All-Conference athletes and 34 All-Conference Scholar-Athletes. He was named Northwest Conference Coach of the Year in 2021 and ITA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016.

The Pacific Northwest is where he started. From 2009 to 2012 he was a teaching professional at Bremerton Tennis & Athletic Club, where he coached junior teams to USTA nationals and developed five nationally ranked juniors. He then spent a year at Sea Island Resort in Georgia, working with juniors and adults and serving as a hitting partner for WTA professional Emily Harman.

Before tennis, Pete served five years in the U.S. Navy.

Arnel Hipolito spent ten years as a tennis professional at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Michigan, where he led red, orange, green, and yellow ball classes across both rec and competitive programs and headed the Cardio Tennis and beginner and intermediate adult programs, along with USTA teams and leagues.

His decade at Midland reached well beyond the lesson court: wheelchair tennis workshops, programs for Fostering Hope children and their chaperones, homeschool groups and P.E. programs and assemblies, pickleball coaching, and community partnerships with the Rotary Club and Dow sponsorships.

At the pro level, Arnel was a WTA hitting pro for the Dow Tennis Classic and worked on staff for the 125-level tournament. He also served as coach and hitting partner for former WTA player and Midland homegrown junior Elizabeth Coleman.

Before Midland, he spent five years as an assistant tennis professional at the Kitsap Tennis & Athletic Center in Bremerton, Washington, under Erik Jacobsen. Kitsap is where he started tennis at age 15, and where he began his coaching journey in summer camps under Pete Yellico, now BSC's Director of Tennis.

Arnel enjoys learning languages and cultures, and has had the privilege of teaching tennis in Japanese, Spanish, Korean, and Tagalog. He stays active in tournaments and training, volunteering as a hitter and coach with local college and high school players.

The love of learning is what drives him as a coach. He believes the best teachers are the best learners, and that tennis is a great way to explore and express skills and a frame of mind for taking on the challenges of life. His favorite thing about coaching is seeing his students overcome challenges, grow successful, and enjoy doing it in the process.

Max Cancilla is a former NCAA Division I player and team captain at the University of Pennsylvania, where he helped Penn reach a top-25 national ranking. He achieved a 13 UTR during his playing career and competed against the top players in the ITA.

As a junior in Southern California, Max reached the No. 1 ranking in his section and finished No. 27 in his class on Tennis Recruiting.

Tommy Edwards joins Tier 1 Performance in Beaverton as a High Performance Coach. He grew up in Hillsboro and played his high school tennis at Century.

Tommy still competes on the pro tour while coaching some of the top juniors in the Portland area. That combination is a big part of what he brings to the academy. The athletes he works with are training with a coach who is in the middle of his own competitive season, so the standards he sets on court come from what he is holding himself to at the same time.

He played five seasons at Portland State, where he finished as the program's all-time leader in doubles wins with 47. That total is also tied for the most in Big Sky Conference history. He set the single-season record at No. 1 doubles with 15 wins in 2018, earned All-Big Sky honorable mention in singles and All-Big Sky second team in doubles, and was named Big Sky Player of the Week in February 2020. He won the Pacific Northwest Invitational doubles title in 2019. He was also a four-time Academic All-Big Sky selection and graduated with a degree in accounting. Since finishing at Portland State he has coached on staff at Pacific University in Forest Grove.

Tommy has seen the college pathway from both sides. He was recruited and developed as a Division I player, and he has recruited and developed players at the Division III level. That gives him a realistic read on what each level actually requires, and he already knows the Oregon junior and high school tennis scene well enough to be useful to families thinking about it.
